The Department of Master of Computer Application (MCA) of Bengal Institute of Technology under Techno India Group was started in the year 2001. This course is a three year Post-Graduate program in Computer Applications, affiliated to WBUT Approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The department of MCA at BIT has the credential achievement of providing quality ICT enabling education, research and innovation through team Work, with a focus on Software Applications for Sustainable and Inclusive Development.
With state of art lab setup and highly qualified faulty staff, the department provides quality education with a motivated environment for advanced level research activities which is reflected in creation of toppers in WBUT examinations. Students get ample exposure by working in live projects in various open source technologies through various ongoing industry projects exploiting the industry tie ups with the department. Such exposure not only provides real time experience, but scope of absorption by the concerned industry after completion of the MCA course.
In concurrence to academic activities, the department conducts periodic trainings and workshops through industry professionals keeping the students updated on latest technologies and industry requirements. Soft skill enhancement trainings, seminars, and mock tests/interviews are part of regular departmental activities such that students can be complete professionals in addition to being mere degree holders.
The students of MCA course have got job opportunities in software companies like Cognizant Technologies, Informatica, IBM, Wipro, Mindtree, Tesco, Amazon, Deeshaw, Deloitte, TCS and many more companies. The placement records of the MCA students have been exemplary. The department has very good placements in the current year 2012 that included 100% internships and 41 placements in reputed IT companies.
On 2012 onwards an Open Source initiative was taken by the department in Geography Information System (GIS) domain. Industry – Department tie up is developed with an aim of training, research and development work using open source software in GIS domain.
